This project has humble origins. Inspired by a chicken house as an ode to the farming history of the area, the Reels Building is anything but rustic. Yet, surrounded by a community garden and courtyards, the Thaden campus evokes an “urban pastoral” vibe. This natural element is exactly what Marlon Blackwell architects intended for the light-filled building to tell the story of the rich agricultural ties to the land where it resides.
Matrix panels orientated vertically clad the entire building façade. The complex roof design involved the formation of continuous length SLR roof panels onsite. All the panels were coated in the same custom metallic green finish. Any variations in hues are created by the shadows of the panel profiles and building angles.
