A Gateway of Light: Honoring History Through Design
Overlooking the Cooper River at the base of the Ravenel Bridge, Morrison Yard rises as a new architectural landmark in Charleston’s Upper Peninsula. The project was inspired by the city’s maritime heritage, the rhythm of the river, and the industrial vernacular of the port. The design draws subtle references from shipping containers and the geometry of the nearby bridge, transforming them into a contemporary composition that connects past and future.
According to the architects at ASD | SKY, the vision was to create a true gateway, a building that refiects Charleston’s enduring legacy while signaling its evolution. Morin’s Matrix-1 aluminum panels (0.40) became a key element in realizing that vision. Their deep 90-degree angles and clean lines give the façade a sculptural quality, capturing light and shadow in constant motion. The result is an expressive exterior that balances industrial strength with refined sophistication, turning tvlorrison Yard into both a tribute and a statement.
